The terms here employed to record the miracle, agree with the accustomed manner in which the the motions of the earth and sun are described in our own day. The sun apparently moves, but really is stationary; while the diurnal movement of the earth on its axis is by us unnoticed, and would not have been known except by astronomical science. The sun appeared to the Israelites over Gibeon, and the moon over the valley of Ajalon, and there they stayed in their course for "a whole day." Many vain enquiries have been made concerning the way in which this miracle was wrought, and many difficulties and objections have been urged against understanding it literally. But the fact is authenticated by the Divine testimony; and the manner in which it was accomplished lies entirely out of our province, because beyond our comprehension. And the care Joshua took to secure them there, as it is an instance of his policy and presence of mind, even in the heat of action; so, in the success of their project, it shews how they who think to hide themselves from God, not only deceive, but destroy themselves. It is now called El Khalil, "the well-beloved," the usual epithet which the Turks and Arabs apply to Abraham, whose sepulchral cave they still shew; over which St. Helena built a magnificent church Its original site was on an eminence, at the southern foot of which the present village is pleasantly situated, on which are the remains of an ancient castle, its sole defence. 14:15; Genesis 23:2, 37:14; Numbers 13:22; 2 Samuel 2:11 Lachish2 Kings 18:14, 18:17; 2 Chronicles 11:9; Micah 1:13ReciprocalJoshua 10:23 - General; 10:31 - Lachish; 10:34 - Eglon; 10:36 - Hebron; 11:1 - he sent; 12:11 - Jarmuth; 12:12 - Eglon; 12:13 - Debir; 15:15 - General; 15:39 - Lachish; 21:29 - Jarmuth; 2 Samuel 5:6 - Jerusalem; 1 Chronicles 6:58 - Debir; Nehemiah 11:30 - Lachish; Psalm 83:5 - they are; Jeremiah 34:7 - Lachish Verse 4and helpIsaiah 8:9, 8:10, 41:5-7; Acts 9:24-27, 21:28; Revelation 16:14, 20:8-10 we mayJoshua 10:1, 9:15; Matthew 16:24; John 15:19, 16:2, 16:3; Acts 9:23; 2 Timothy 3:12; James 4:4; 1 Peter 4:4ReciprocalJoshua 11:1 - he sent; 2 Samuel 2:12 - Gibeon; Psalm 119:94 - I am thine Verse 5Joshua 10:6, 9:1, 9:2; Genesis 15:16; Isaiah 8:9, 8:10ReciprocalDeuteronomy 20:1 - horses; Joshua 10:3 - king of Jerusalem; 10:23 - General; 10:31 - Lachish; 10:36 - Hebron; 2 Chronicles 11:9 - Lachish Verse 6to the campJoshua 5:10, 9:6 Slack2 Kings 4:24 from thyJoshua 9:15, 9:24, 9:25; Isaiah 33:22 mountainsJoshua 21:11; Deuteronomy 1:15; Psalm 125:2; Luke 1:39ReciprocalJoshua 4:19 - Gilgal; 10:5 - General; 10:15 - General; 11:2 - on the north; 1 Samuel 25:34 - hasted; Psalm 123:2 - as the eyes; Isaiah 27:5 - let him; Luke 1:65 - all the Verse 7Isaiah 8:12, 8:14

Their refuge of lies will but bind them over to God's judgment.ReciprocalJoshua 8:23 - General; Isaiah 24:22 - they shall; Revelation 6:15 - hid Verse 18Joshua 10:22; Judges 9:46-49; Job 21:30; Amos 5:19, 9:1; Matthew 27:66
