The Jewish writers also inform us, that Turnus Rufus, whom Titus had left in command, ploughed up the very foundations of the temple. When Dr. Richardson visited this sacred spot in 1818, he found one part of Mount Zion supporting a crop of barley, and another undergoing the labour of the plough: the soil turned up consisted of stone and lime mixed with earth, such as is usually met with in foundations of ruined cities. It is nearly a mile in circumference; is highest on the west side, and, towards the east, falls down in broad terraces on the upper part of the mountain as it slopes down toward the brook Kidron.JerusalemSee note on Jeremiah 9:11, 51:37; 2 Kings 19:25; Nehemiah 4:2; Psalm 79:1 the mountainJeremiah 17:3; Isaiah 2:2, 2:3; Micah 4:1; Zechariah 8:3Reciprocal1 Kings 9:7 - this house; 2 Kings 20:14 - What said; 1 Chronicles 21:15 - unto Jerusalem; 2 Chronicles 32:26 - Hezekiah; Job 15:28 - which are ready; Psalm 137:3 - wasted us; Isaiah 3:8 - Jerusalem; 27:10 - the defenced; Jeremiah 7:14 - as; 22:6 - surely; 39:16 - Behold; Lamentations 2:7 - cast off; Daniel 9:2 - the desolations; Hosea 2:12 - I will; Micah 6:9 - Lord's; Haggai 1:4 - and; Matthew 24:2 - There; Mark 13:2 - there; 14:57 - and bare; Luke 21:6 - there; Acts 6:14 - that Verse 19did he2 Chronicles 29:6-11, 32:20, 32:25, 32:26, 34:21; Isaiah 37:1, 37:4, 37:15-20 besought the LordHeb. besought the face of the Lordand the LordJeremiah 26:3; Exodus 32:14; 2 Samuel 24:16 ThusJeremiah 26:15; Numbers 16:38, 35:33, 35:34; Isaiah 26:21; Lamentations 4:13, 4:14; Matthew 23:35; 27:24, 27:25; Luke 3:19, 3:20; Acts 5:39; Revelation 6:9, 6:10, 16:6, 18:20-24ReciprocalGenesis 6:6 - repented; 2 Kings 20:14 - What said; Jeremiah 4:18 - Thy way; 11:17 - pronounced; 26:13 - repent; 37:18 - General; 42:10 - for I; Amos 7:6 - General; Zechariah 7:2 - pray before the Lord; 7:12 - therefore; Malachi 1:9 - God; Acts 5:35 - take Verse 20KirjathjearimJoshua 15:60, 18:14; 1 Samuel 7:2Reciprocal1 Kings 13:4 - Lay hold; 18:10 - whither my lord; 2 Kings 23:37 - he did; 24:2 - according; Nehemiah 9:26 - slew; Isaiah 30:10 - say; Jeremiah 2:30 - your own sword; 36:19 - General; 39:16 - Behold; Micah 2:6 - Prophesy ye; Mark 8:35 - will save; 12:3 - they; Luke 20:10 - beat Verse 21the king soughtJeremiah 36:26; 2 Chronicles 16:10; Psalm 119:109; Matthew 14:5; Mark 6:19 he was1 Kings 19:1-3; Proverbs 29:25; Matthew 10:23, 10:28, 10:39, 16:25, 16:26ReciprocalExodus 2:15 - fled; 1 Samuel 21:10 - fled; 2 Chronicles 36:5 - Jehoiakim; Jeremiah 38:4 - the princes; 52:2 - according; Habakkuk 1:4 - for; Matthew 5:12 - for so; 21:35 - General Verse 22menPsalm 12:8; Proverbs 29:12 Achbor2 Kings 22:12, 22:14Reciprocal2 Chronicles 34:20 - Abdon; Jeremiah 22:17 - to shed; 36:12 - Elnathan; 36:25 - Elnathan Verse 23whoJeremiah 26:15, 2:30; Ezekiel 19:6; Matthew 14:10, 23:34, 23:35; Acts 12:1-3; 1 Thessalonians 2:15; Revelation 11:7 and castJeremiah 22:19, 36:30 common peopleHeb. sons of the peopleReciprocal7:6 - and shed; 19:4 - filled; Matthew 23:37 - thou; Luke 13:34 - killest; Acts 7:52 - Which of; 12:2 - with; Habakkuk 3:1 - were slain; Revelation 11:8 - their dead Verse 24AhikamJeremiah 39:14, 40:5-7; 2 Kings 22:12-14, 25:22; 2 Chronicles 34:20 thatJeremiah 1:18, 1:19, 15:15-21; 1 Kings 18:4; Isaiah 37:32, 37:33; Acts 23:10,20-35; 25:3, 25:4, 27:43; Revelation 12:16Reciprocal2 Kings 22:9 - Shaphan; 2 Chronicles 34:8 - sent Shaphan; Proverbs 31:8 - Open; Jeremiah 26:10 - the princes; 29:3 - Shaphan; 36:10 - Shaphan; Ezekiel 8:11 - Shaphan; Habakkuk 3:1 - escaped
